St. Patrick’s Wild Forage Martini
Mar 16, 2019
You all will have no doubt heard about the rise and popularity of Irish Whiskey & Gin and its resurgence in the global spirit market. It’s therefore good news all round that we’ll be seeing yet more wonderfully warm and inviting spirits from the Emerald Isle. We’re also working hard to increase our inventory to make sure we present the very best on offer…so watch this space! In the meantime, there are some fantastic whiskies to choose from here ranging from a limited edition Writers’ Tears to the Teeling Distillery’s masterful whiskies.
To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on 17th March we caught up with John Ryan, Beverage Manager at the Vintage Crop Cocktail Bar situated at the iconic K Club in Kildare, just 30 minutes outside of Ireland’s capital city, Dublin. John’s take on the perfect St. Patrick’s Day cocktail was a Wild Forage Martini. Before we delve deeper, here’s a bit more info on this gem of a bar.
The Vintage Crop Cocktail Bar is named after Dr Michael Smurfit’s (owner) beloved Irish gelding, Vintage Crop. Amongst many accolades, Vintage Crop became the first Irish horse to surpass the £1 million mark in winnings. Rightly so his name lives on and many a fine drink has been created, enjoyed and shared at The K Club.
The Vintage Crop bar features an enviable collection of whiskies and gins and is well worth a visit. If that’s not enough to tempt you, the hotel and surrounding golf courses (The K Club hosted the Ryder Cup Golf in 2006) are up there as some of the best in Ireland.
What’s in John’s Wild Forage Martini?
This is a St. Patrick’s Wild Forage Martini made using Glendalough Gin (coming soon to The Spirit Co), Apple Sour, Sugar Syrup and Freshly Squeezed Lime, finished with a Cucumber, Blackberry & Rosemary garnish.
The Method?
Place ice in a shaker and pour over Glendalough wild Gin, Sour apple liq, fresh lime juice and sugar syrup and shake well.
Remove ice from the martini glass and strain contents of shaker in a chilled martini glass.
Slice cucumber lengthways and so it can be made into according as you place blueberries in between each fold as you add to the length of rosemary.
Cheers!
