Spotlight on Glen Moray

This week we’re pleased to include some new product lines to The Spirit Co, and we’ve selected three fantastic single malts from Speyside to whet your appetite. Head on over to the products page for more inspiration.

Glen Moray’s distillery began life back in 1897 and has since seen 5 master distillers at the helm, most recently when Graham Coull succeeded Edwin Dodson in 2005. Coull evidently respects the heritage but is not afraid to explore new avenues as can be seen with our first expression.

GLEN MORAY CIDER CASK PROJECT - LIMITED EDITION

This UK exclusive release is the first expression of the Elgin Curiosity range, with only 2,000 bottles being produced. It’s a marriage between Glen Moray and Thistly Cross Cider with ex-Glen Moray casks being sent to Dunbar to age Thistly Cross Cider, then returned once again to the distillery to be reunited with Glen Moray spirit. The result is a wonderfully smooth and light whisky, notes of summer fruits and vanilla, developing to a sweet and background tangy finish.

GLEN MORAY 25 YEARS OLD ‘PORT CASK FINISH’ - LIMITED EDITION

Next up we’ve selected a cracking 25 Year Old Single Malt from Elgin’s Reserve and as one would expect it’s limited in number so be sure to act fast. This malt is finished in authentic Port Casks selected from some of the most renowned port houses in Portugal. The result is an extremely rich and complex whisky that offers a pleasing variety of delicate aromas. This expression is released in vintages as a limited edition, individually numbered with each bottle being unique.

On the nose expect tropical fruits laced with toffee. Hints of ginger, liquorice and mint. On the palate, as expected, rich and full bodied with an abundance of fruit and vanilla. The finish is long with cocoa and creamy vanilla. Are you bold enough to try?

GLEN MORAY 10 YEAR OLD FIRED OAK – NEW RELEASE

One for the Bourbon lovers out there? Released in November this year, this 10 Year Old from Glen Moray showcases the depths of flavour the master distillers can achieve by maturing in ex-Bourbon and heavily charred virgin American oak casks. Coull’s aim with this release was to magnify the delicate notes of vanilla, butterscotch and citrus which we are accustomed to with Glen Morays, and to push these to the fore using heavily charred virgin American oak casks. We think they have succeeded and if you’re looking for a single malt with a nod to Bourbon, it’s certainly one to consider.
