A 1995 22-year-old Glenfarclas Single Cask Scotch Whisky from the Family Casks series which is a special bottling of a Sherry Casks. For this bottling, Glenfarclas filled a selected Sherry Hogshead with Cask number 2292 in the year 1995, were allowed to mature for more than 22 years in the cask and was bottled on the 6th of November 2017 with only 216 bottles being made available. Complex, rare and utterly delightful are three ways to describe this single malt.
On the nose, a sherry presence is imminent and reminiscent of oloroso, figs, plums and raisins. Notes fo caramel and cream start to drift in like a crème brûlée, gentle splashes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, herbs citrus and leather all make a brief but welcomed appearance.
The palate is velvety on the tongue, the malt tingles with a bit of spice but is not overpowering. The alcohol flavour is present despite the low cask strength but not overpowering. Cinnamon, plums, spices, dried fruits, citrus fruits, herbs, coffee and smoked oak all mix together to create a truly divine single malt. The finish is long and sweet. Fresh cherry tart, oak, vanilla and a touch of chalk.
