Lagavulin 12 Year Old Special Release 2019
This single malt Scotch is one of Diageo’s Special Releases for 2019, named ‘Rare by Nature’. The whisky has been matured in refill American oak casks which has produced a signature Islay peat and smoke-filled dram. As with all of Diageo’s special releases, the bottle label proudly depicts a bird of prey…a bit like Lagavulin in many ways, don’t mess with greatness!
On the nose, as expected, peat…fresh green peat with dampened smoke and notes of Scottish shorelines. On the palate smoke in abundance with hints of minerals, warming spice and caramel. The finish is smooth, soft and peaty with background of smoke. A real pleasure.
