Vat 69 was the flagship blend of William Sanderson, later to become part of Diageo. As the story goes William vatted 100 casks and invited a panel of friends and experts to taste them blind. The 69th cask was declared to be the best, and the name came with it. A very complex blend with around 40 malts and grains.
The nose is sweet, with honey, vanilla and caramel balancing against some spices and malt. On the palate a malty flavour, mixing in some nuts and winter fruits, very creamy. The finish has some spice mixed with wood chippings and barley, it is medium length and smooth.
