Once their straight rye whiskey matures for a respectable 4 to 5 years in high-char new American oak barrels, Sagamore's skilled distillers embark on an extraordinary journey. They carefully transfer the aged elixir into toasted wave stave barrels, where it gracefully matures for an additional 18 months. Herein lies the magic – the expanded surface area of these low-char, medium-plus-toast staves imbues Double Oak with a symphony of flavours: think delightful caramel, indulgent toffee, toasted hazelnut, and a whisper of coconut kissed by flames. This innovative aging process breathes new life into the classic Maryland-style rye whiskey, marrying tradition with innovation. And to crown this masterpiece, the spirit is artfully proofed with limestone-filtered water sourced from our venerable spring house, a relic from 1909. Behold, a testament to the harmonious union of old-world charm and contemporary flair.
Tasting Notes:
Smooth caramel and rich toasted coconut. Nutty flavours of hazelnut and pecan meld perfectly with vanilla and caramel.
