Greensand Ridge Wealden Rum

Greensand Ridge is an award-winning, carbon neutral distillery located in a beautifully converted Victorian coach house in the heart of Kent. Will, owner and distiller, specialises in Gins, Rums and Fruit Brandies, making spirits with provenance, using sustainable practices and turning surplus produce from local growers into fine spirits.

Greensand’s Wealden Rum is carefully distilled from cane molasses which is a by-product of the UK’s sugar refining industry. Interestingly, Will uses unconventional distilling techniques to ferment the molasses which results in a delightful honey floral flavour, more so than a classic rum. To finish the process the rum is aged in hand-picked oak casks to develop the flavours and allow the spirit to mellow.

A striking rum hits the nose, very crisp and clean…almost floral. To taste it’s very smooth but not overly sweet, very balanced. There’s fruit and honeycomb but again in great proportion. The finish is smooth with drenched raisins and an oakiness which remains clean and floral.

Serving Suggestion:

You could definitely drink this straight up in summer with ice or without to warm the cockles. It’s also great as an Old Fashioned; make sure to get some quality bitters and add the honey of choice, more floral the better.
