Sloe, but more so. The folks over at Whittaker's Gin in Harrogate created Double-Sloe Gin by combining macerated-sloe gin and distilled-sloe gin, then lightly sweetened with liquorice root. The result takes sloe gin in a new direction, and it's ace. The label features two local landmarks - the Ripon Cathedral and Bettys Tea Rooms, as well as a rather ghostly hare, staring straight into your soul.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Soft, but with plenty going on: flecks of cherry blossom, almond and vanilla blossom before the nose settles into plump, but dry sloe and pine.
Taste: Slightly nutty and oily to start, with deep, rich and crisp pine notes - fresh and invigorating. Notes of sloe berry follow: tart, but with a ribbon of sweet vanilla and cherry running through it.
Finish: Cherry stones and vanilla with a lingering zip of tart berries and pine needles.
