Greensand Ridge - Sustainable Craft Spirits

We love to hear about sustainable business practice here at The Spirit Co, after all, our parent company Lanchester Group is carbon neutral and Greensand Ridge is no different.  

Greensand Ridge is an award-winning, carbon neutral distillery located in a beautifully converted Victorian coach house in the heart of Kent, England. Will, owner and distiller, specialises in Gins, Rums and Fruit Brandies, making spirits with provenance, using sustainable practices and turning surplus produce from local growers into fine spirits.

From the outside Will’s lifestyle looks idyllic; beautiful converted coach house with fantastic views over the English countryside and a distillery within the grounds to boot. I can’t lie, it is idyllic but a lot of hard work and determination is the very reason Will and the team make such fantastic spirits.

Will also welcomes visitors to try their hand and producing their very own unique spirit. Over 100 botanicals and spices line the walls in Kilner jars along with some Will’s most treasured spirits from around the world, often leading to inspiration for his next batch.

I was lucky enough to be sent home with a sample of each but highlights can be seen below. Used wisely each and every one of these crafted spirits has its place depending on your mood. Straight up, traditional, cocktails… you name it.

Greensand Ridge Rye Cask Gin
A fine balance that incorporates both characteristics of the gin and rye casks. There’s some complexity going on but its depth leaves us wanting to experiment. 50cl, 40% ABV, £38.50

Greensand Ridge London Dry Gin
The nose is unmistakable to that of a crisp London Dry, plenty of punchy juniper with wafts of spice. The palate is clean and leads to aromas of verdant pine forests, spice and citrus. Delicious! 70cl, 40% ABV, £34.99

Greensand Ridge Raspberry Ghost
This eaux de vie is a beautifully light aromatic raspberry serve infused with wheat spirit. The subtlety of the spirit is most pleasing and lends itself to many a serve. All this from fruit deemed not good enough for the supermarket shelves…we beg to differ! 70cl, 40% ABV, £36.95

Greensand Ridge PX Cask Gin
The Pedro Ximénez Cask Gin has the heart of their award-winning London Dry Gin. The rich sweet and spicy character of the PX cask is layered on top of the already complex and aromatic gin to present a fully flavoured spirit, capable of everything from a sipping serve to a big spiced punch. 50cl, 41% ABV, £38.95

Greensand Ridge Apple Brandy
I was lucky enough to witness first-hand the aromas given off by this process, and it left me wanting more! On the nose expect delicate green apple, wonderfully perfumed. The palate is smooth with vanilla, crisp apple with added spice. 50cl, 42% ABV, £32.50

Greensand Ridge Wealden Rum
Carefully distilled from cane molasses which is a by-product of the UK’s sugar refining industry. A striking rum hits the nose, very crisp and clean…almost floral. To taste it’s very smooth but not overly sweet, very balanced. There’s fruit and honeycomb but again in great proportion. 50cl, 40% ABV, £34.99
